Description

Description

A beloved herbal tea that has garnered many fans over the years, Verveine tea – also known as lemon verbena – emits a potent fragrance thanks to the essential oil found in its leaves. Various healing properties are attributed to verveine, with an increasing amount of scientific studies supporting these claims. For years, this delightful herbal tea has been recognized as the perfect ‘after-dinner’ option as it purportedly supports digestion and promotes relaxation.

With its fresh and slightly sour lemon note, lemon verbena is a fan favorite among herbal teas.

Ingredients

Dried verveine leaves.

Lemon Verbena Plant

Aloysia citrodora Paláu, commonly known as “lemon verbena,” is a medicinal plant native to South America, North Africa, and Southern Europe, utilized by indigenous people for various conditions like diarrhea, flatulence, insomnia, and rheumatism.

A. citrodora belongs to the Verbenaceae family and has several other synonyms for its scientific name, including Lippia citriodora Kunth and Aloysia triphylla.

Owing to its delightful lemon scent, lemon verbena is also widely used in cosmetics.

Health Benefits of Verveine Tea

  • Helps to reduce inflammation.
  • Supports digestion.
  • Certain components in the verveine plant also assist in protecting the cells in your muscles from damage, particularly important for athletes whose bodies often undergo stress due to rigorous activity, sometimes causing muscle damage.
  • Aids better sleep due to its calming effects. Verveine (like all our other herbal teas) is not a miracle cure but can serve as good support for certain conditions or help maintain your immunity and health.

How to Prepare Verbena Verveine

Verveine tea can be made from fresh verveine leaves or dried verveine leaves. Lemon verbena is delightful on its own but can also be perfectly combined with other herbs such as lemon balm or linden blossom. Additionally, this pure herb can be enjoyed both hot and cold.

Herbs like this should always be prepared with boiling water and then allowed to infuse for 5 to 8 minutes.
