Ice pops and summer go hand in hand. We’re excited to inspire you to make your own tea-based ice pops this summer. Homemade ice pops are delicious, healthy, and refreshing. Plus, they’re a fun activity to do with children.
To start, choose your favorite tea. You can also select more than one type of tea, so you can compare and discover which tea tastes best as an ice pop.
Will you go for pure tea, a blend, or a fruit tea? Oolong, green, white, or black tea? Oolong with strawberries, green tea with lemon, black tea with peach, or 100% matcha? The options are endless! Optionally, add some fresh fruit for a summery twist. And let’s be honest, Tropical Paradise, Peachy Summer, and Sweet Papaya sound delightful as ice pop flavors!
Requirements:
- +/- 16 grams of loose tea of your choice
- 1 liter of filtered water
- sweetener of your choice (honey, maple syrup…)
- ice pop molds
- teapot, carafe, or Hario cold brew bottle (for making the cold tea)
- optional: fresh fruit like strawberries, blueberries, peaches…
Instructions:
Step 1: Make the cold tea using the cold brew method (best done the night before)
- Put the loose tea in water and place your teapot, carafe, or Hario cold brew bottle in the fridge for 5 to 8 hours.
- Strain the tea after infusing (you can skip this step if using our handy cold brew bottles!)
- Sweeten to taste with honey or maple syrup.
- Alternative: make iced tea or shock brew instead of cold brew if you want to enjoy delicious ice pops more quickly.
-
- Brew the tea according to the package instructions, but use a bit more tea (+ 2 grams) and steep a bit longer (+ 2 minutes) than usual. Stronger tea results in a tastier ice pop. Let the hot tea cool in the fridge (iced tea) or add ice cubes (shock brew).
Step 2: Make the ice pops
- Pour the cold tea into the ice pop molds.
- Optionally, add pieces of fresh or pureed fruit. This adds extra flavor and texture to your ice pops!
- Insert sticks into the molds and place them in the freezer for at least 2 to 3 hours.
- Bonus: you can drink any remaining tea 😉
Step 3: Enjoy!
- Remove the ice pops from the molds and enjoy your refreshing tea ice pops!
