Ginseng

Ginseng is a herb that has been used in East Asia for thousands of years as a herbal remedy. It is especially known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and its pronounced herbal aroma. It is the root of the ginseng plant that is used. The root is dried and then utilized in tablets, capsules, extracts, creams, and of course, tea. Ginseng root can be drunk as a pure infusion, but it is also frequently combined with honey, green tea, or oolong tea. This edible root somewhat resembles ginger.

There are two types of ginseng: Asian ginseng and American ginseng.

  • Panax ginseng, the Asian ginseng, is the East Asian variety originating from Korea and China.
  • Panax quinquefolium or American ginseng, is a type of ginseng from Canada and the United States.

Ginseng that is dried in the open air after harvest is called white ginseng. If the ginseng is prepared through steam or heat, then it is referred to as Red ginseng. Both come from the same plant but undergo different processing methods, resulting in a different chemical composition. Hence, they are given different names.

The ginseng we use in this Green Ginseng tea is a red Panax ginseng originating from China.
