Description

Description

A lot of admiration is attached to a “First Flush”, and especially when it is a First Flush Darjeeling. Darjeeling is a relatively small area in India and the global demand for darjeeling is particularly high. This makes the Fisrt Flush Darjeeling highly sought after. Every year, people from all over the world bid heavily for this exclusive tea.

‘Spring is child’ they sometimes say in tea country. There are several reasons why tea from this season is so sought after. First, conditions are optimal for the tea plants. They get a lot of energy and heat from the sun, but the heat is still bearable so the plants have slow growth and fully develop all their qualities. This creates very complex flavours and aromas that the seasoned tea lover so desperately seeks. A second reason is the tea’s nutritional value. During the winter months, the tea plant does not produce new leaves – the Camelia Sinensis goes “dormant” as they say – but the plant naturally continues to extract a lot of nutrients from the soil, which it accumulates. Then, in spring, the first leaves appear. Nice light green they stand out against the older dark green leaves. Because the plant has been able to store nutrients for a long time, this pick is known to have the most of them.

We are extremely happy that we too can now sell First Flush Darjeeling tea for the very first time on Tea.be. We chose the Samabeong Tea Estate, which has been around since 1882 and is located at the foot of the Himalayas, close to Bhutan. The tea fields are in the Neora Valley, a national park. The tea grows at an altitude of 2,000m.
