Recipe: Sencha Pink Drink

The summer isn’t over yet, and we have the perfect drink to accompany those delightful summer evenings. Not overly sweet drinks, but a wonderfully refreshing and subtly flavored tea mocktail that also looks fantastic. For this mocktail, we will use our Sencha Fukujyu. This green tea from Japan has a strong grassy aftertaste, and when combined with a very lightly sweetened drink, it creates a perfect balance. For the pink drink, you can simply use your favorite fizzy pink drink. We personally prefer not-too-sweet drinks so that the Sencha doesn’t get overpowered. Fortunately, the choices in larger supermarkets today are plentiful.Recept Sencha Pink Mocktail

Tea Tips: We are using green tea, and since it’s a delicate tea leaf, it’s best to brew the tea at a maximum of 80 degrees Celsius to prevent any bitterness. You can do this by using a kettle with temperature control or a thermometer. Or you could just guess, that works too. Once the tea has steeped strongly (you want a strong tea for this drink), remove the leaves and let it cool completely.

How to make it:

  • Cut your favorite fruit into small pieces, place them in an ice cube tray, and add water. Freeze overnight.
  • Brew a pot of Sencha tea using Sencha Fukujyu at 80 degrees Celsius to avoid bitterness. Use more tea leaves than you normally would so you get a very strong tea. Let it cool completely and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.
  • Fill glasses to the top with the fruit ice cubes. Fill halfway with Sencha Fukujyu and top off with your favorite sparkling pink drink (preferably a not-too-sweet one).

Enjoy!
