And about my own recipe, no less. But sometimes you have to call a spade a spade, and after a lot of experimenting and trying, this is the result: the perfect chai latte!

In this recipe, we’re going to work entirely from scratch and use the most traditional black tea from India: Assam Mokalbari. If you want to make a cup of chai latte faster, you can use our Black Chai. In this blend, the chai spices are already included in your black tea mix.

Chai Latte Ingredients:

2 cm ginger

1 liter water

2 cinnamon sticks

6 cardamom pods

1 tsp black peppercorns

1 star anise

2 tbsp loose black tea

3 tbsp maple syrup

750 ml oat milk (or other milk)

Chai Latte Recipe Method:

Put 1 liter of water in a large cooking pot and add the ginger. Bring it to a boil and then lower the heat for about 6 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat.

Meanwhile, take a saucepan and add the spices (cinnamon, cardamom, black peppercorns, star anise). Break the cinnamon sticks into pieces. Now roast the spices in the pan. Do this for a few minutes and make sure the spices don’t burn.

Your kitchen already smells wonderful now!

Add the roasted spices and loose tea to the pot of water. Let it steep for about ten minutes.

Pour the pot with water, spices, tea, and ginger into another pot and strain everything through a sieve. This infusion is the base of your Chai Latte and can be stored in the refrigerator for the coming days.

Put the oat milk in a large pot and froth it up. You can do this, for example, by using an immersion blender. Then heat the frothed oat milk.

Now divide into glasses. Always use 2/3 tea and 1/3 frothed milk.

Enjoy!

P.S.: Delicious with a cookie!

You can also find this recipe in my cookbook “Gezellige Gezonde Goesting”, published by njam!
